Schorr Family Firehouse Stage presents musical “Are You My Mother”

Johnson City – The Goodwill Theatre will present ArtsPower “Are you My Mother” on Saturday, April 28, at 11:00 am and 2:00 pm at the Schorr Family Firehouse Stage. Based on the best-selling enduring children’s classic book by P. D. Eastman, “Are You My Mother” was adapted into a one-hour musical for the enjoyment of children and families. This will be the final show for the Goodwill Theatre’s 2011-2012 Story Time Theatre Series, sponsored by Senator Libous’ BOOKS Program, in partnership with Morrisville State College, and Bates-Troy Quality Dry Cleaners.

ArtsPower’s enchanting musical about Baby Bird’s adventure, a journey that overflows with courage, determination, and a bit of calculated silliness. The musical begins when Baby Bird hatches from her egg only to find an empty nest. Unaware that her mother has left to find food, Baby Bird decides to leave the nest to look for her; along the way, she meets an array of colorful characters who help and advise her. Persistent Baby Bird is determined to find her mother no matter what.

“Are You My Mother?” features a rich, upbeat musical score and imaginative sets. Greg Gunning, ArtsPower’s Artistic Director, adapted and directed the show and wrote the lyrics. Richard DeRosa wrote and orchestrated the musical score.

“We love presenting ArtsPower musical versions of favorite children’s books because they are professionally acted and beautifully sung as well as being clever with loads of energy,” says Goodwill Theatre Executive Director Naima Kradjian. “We schedule these one-hour shows at convenient times before and after lunch, so the family can enjoy the show and the rest of the day together. This is a great introduction to the magic of theatre.”

Tickets are $10 for adults and $8 for senior citizens and students. Patrons can save 20% by purchasing subscriptions to the 2010-2011 Story Time Theatre Series, which are available at $32 for adults and $24 for senior citizens and students.
