As part of our Just for Fun Series, the Goodwill Theatre will present three performances of magic, juggling and athletic dance entitled Circus Terrifico on Friday, February 8 at 7 p.m., and Saturday, February 9 at 2 p.m. and at 7 p.m. at the Schorr Family Firehouse Stage. Goodwill Theatre’s Just for Fun Series is sponsored by Visions Federal Credit Union.
From 1985 to 1990 James Croker, Cynthia Croker and Jack Langenhuizen worked together on several creative and educational projects. During this period of time they developed a strong working relationship and artistic vision. In 1990 they officially developed a company, MOTUS O dance theatre. MOTUS O was created for the purpose of developing dance theatre works that portray the human experience through the use of humor and pathos. With the integration of movement, music, video projection, costuming, props and sets the creators desire to bring to audiences works that are visually stimulating and communicative.
MOTUS O has been touring across Canada, the U.S.A. and internationally since 1990. With twelve touring shows to-date, the company creates, teaches and performs works that bring magic, honesty and passion into both large and small communities, engaging audiences of all ages. Specializing in a powerful, athletic dance genre called ‘contact improv’, their style is best described as: part dance, part theatre and part triathlon!
Performed with the signature MOTUS O physicality and humor, see for yourself how a little magic, some juggling, tight-rope walking and fortune-telling can fulfill every child’s fantasy to ‘run off and join the circus!’ Circus Terrifico is a whimsical and poignant comedy featuring Tchaikovsky’s soaring scores and original music by Canadian composer Ray Luedeke. It makes audiences of all ages laugh out loud and leave with a (big, clownish) smile!
We first meet our three circus performers boarding the train to their next show. A case of vanishing tickets, however, thwarts their plans and strands them on the platform. It takes every trick in the book (and their suitcases!) to create an impromptu show to raise money for new tickets. But it works! And as the Train Conductor watches the antics of these 3 enigmatic clowns, he’s drawn into their mayhem and magic, finally agreeing to be their new Ring Master! With the Conductor’s help, our performers arrive at the theatre just in time to present their magnificent CIRCUS TERRIFICO ~ hilariously unkempt micro-version interpretations of their favorite ballets, Sleeping Beauty, Swan Lake and The Nutcracker!
Tickets for Circus Terrifico are $20 for adults and $18 for senior citizens, students and $10 for children. Reservations, and information on all shows, are available by calling the Goodwill Theatre Box Office at (607) 772-2404, ext. 301. You can also purchase tickets on their website: www.goodwilltheatre.net. Tickets, if still available, will also be sold at the door, one hour before show time.
