Goodwill Theatre Keeps the Jazz Tradition Alive with area’s “Teen Jazz Project”
The Goodwill Theatre will present a special concert featuring the local Teen Jazz Project on Wednesday, May 9, at 7:00pm at the Schorr Family Firehouse Stage. The show is a new addition to the 2011-2012 Triple Cities Triple Jazz Concert Series that is sponsored by the Oakdale Mall.
The Teen Jazz Project (TJP) is a community-based jazz program devoted to promoting live jazz music in the Triple Cities area. TJP believes that music is an essential part of any thriving community. To this end, they have introduced an opportunity for up and coming teen musicians in our community to learn from experienced musicians and music educators. The directors and mentors involved in this project hope to pass along a love for jazz music to the next generation.
The TJP goal is to provide a welcoming environment where area teen musicians can learn to play, improvise and perform the unique art form that is jazz. Any teen instrumentalist or vocalist in grades 9-12 is welcome to audition. The TJP is directored and mentored by musicians Anthony Alduino and James Meckley.
