The talented Tommy Z and the Boys are taking Johnson City by storm! Part of the Music Hall Concert series, the Goodwill Theatre presents the Tommy Z and the Boys featuring Tommy Z, Tony Marino and Joe Roma on Sunday, February 16 at 2 p.m. at the Schorr Family Firehouse Stage.
“Tommy Z, Tony and Joe are well known from our Jazz Jam sessions on Monday nights throughout our season,” said Naima Kradjian, CEO. “We are excited to present them in a show of their own featuring Tommy Z’s unique interpretations of favorite standards.”
Tommy Z, as he’s known in the local music community, began piano lessons at seven years old after his father watched him play on the piano in his recording studio. Tommy mastered the standard classical repertoire and found his attention drawn to boogie woogie, jazz and pop music. He can often be found at Jazz Jams at the Schorr Family Firehouse Stage, as well as other performances around the area.
Tommy Z will be joined by Tony Marino on bass and Joe Roma on drums.
Tony plays his bass around the world. He began his professional career as a house bassist in many of the clubs and resorts in the Poconos and Catskill Mountains, providing back-up to a myriad of well-known entertainers. Tony performs and tours internationally with the Dave Liebman Group. He plays and records with Broadway’s Betty Buckley and with jazz pianist Kenny Werner, and is widely hailed as one of the rising stars of the jazz world.
Joe is a graduate of Binghamton University where he received his Bachelor of Music degree with Honors and was a member of the Binghamton University Music Department for 8 years. He founded Joe’s Drum Shop in Johnson City and had a successful business there for 21 years. He is currently on the Music Department faculty at SUNY-Broome, performs as Principal Timpanist with the Tri-Cities Opera orchestra, and as a timpanist/percussionist with the Cider Mill Playhouse, Binghamton Downtown Singers and the Basically Bach ensemble. He performs on the drum set with the Miles Ahead Jazz Quartet, Old Friends and the Adam Ash Jazz Trio. Joe is a private drum and percussion instructor and a certified NYSSMA adjudicator.
