Classical Piano Plus! Series
with Liam Teague (steelpan)
Sunday, April 2 at 2 PM
$25 Adult; $20 Senior/Student/Child
John Covelli returns to the Schorr Family Firehouse Stage with a popular friend and outstanding steel drum “panist” who won audience enthusiasm in his first visit. Liam Teague made a great impression when he appeared here two years ago, and will once again present an eclectic mix, reflecting exciting and unique musical offerings… both solo steel drum and with piano. Liam offers his own variety with Bach and Vivaldi with the much anticipated and unbelievably virtuosic Moto Perpetuo of Paganini and the quintessential, delightful, toe-tapping Tico Tico. Plus an original solo composition written just for us.
From the Covelli fingers, you’ll hear the sassy and irreverent Polka of Shostakovich; youthful, delightful romp of the Polichinelle of Rachmaninov; and the technically demanding Toccata of American composer friend, Fred Werle; to the iconic and always stimulating , technically challenging audience favorite, 2nd Hungarian Rhapsody of Franz Liszt. Balancing this tour-de- force display is the beguiling Papillons of Robert Schumann, simple and charming and, as Covelli says, “so welcome in today’s frenetic world.” He also includes a short composition written by his Binghamton composer friend Fritz Orzelek, commemorating the April 3 tragedy at Binghamton’s American Civic Association.
Liam and John join musical forces again for a wonderful spectrum…an array of musical treats, a rare collaborative gift by two fabulous musicians.
