As part of the new Laugh Out Loud Series, The Goodwill Theatre presents the Ladies of Laughter on Friday November 9 at 7p.m. at the Schorr Family Firehouse Stage. The Goodwill Theatre’s 2012-2013 Laugh Out Loud Series is underwritten by The Schorr Family.
Ladies of Laughter provides funny women the opportunity to showcase their unique styles of humor. Their mission is to encourage and promote new and professional comediennes from all walks of life to share their humor with audiences. Ladies of Laughter features the brightest new and professional comediennes in stand-up comedy, including women who have appeared on television and in major nightclubs. The finalists and semi-finalists from the 2012 competition will be showcasing their talents at the Schorr Stage this season.
The comediennes performing on this tour are Maryanne Donnelly, Erin Judge and Jennifer McMullen.
Maryanne Donnelly was a Finalist in the 2012 Ladies of Laughter Contest in New York City. She advanced to the Finals out of 100 women to perform before Comedy Central at Gotham Comedy Club. She has performed at Caroline’s, the Comic Strip and is a regular at the majority of New York City club. A resident of Binghamton, Maryanne is an original and real crowd pleaser and takes you for a ride with her comedy. The minute you think you are going one way, she takes you in a completely different direction. Maryanne is also performing in the New York Comedy Festival at the Best of New Talent at Caroline’s Comedy Club. She won first place in the Laughing Cup Funniest Comic and she is on to the finals. “I am an extreme sports athlete in a very dangerous sport… aging. A lot of people don’t want to play because of the prize… death. Aging is the only sport that encourages drug use.” jokes Donnelly. “I got into comedy because it was easier than walking on fire.”
Erin Judge began her career at the Comedy Studio in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and now she lives in New York and performs all over the world. Erin’s first stand-up album, “So Many Choices”, was released by Rooftop Comedy in 2012, and 24/7 Comedy Radio liked it so much they featured her as Comedian of the Week. Erin has appeared on Comedy Central, in Time Out New York as Joke of the Week, and in the pages of the New York Times.
Jennifer McMullen has been doing comedy for 2 years and in addition to being chosen to perform in this year’s Ladies of Laughter Competition, she was the runner up in the 2011 Albany’s Last Comic Standing Competition. She has performed at various clubs across New York State including The Broadway Comedy Club, The New York Comedy Club she has performed at fundraisers for organizations such as The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, Hurricane Irene Relief Fund and the Save a Bull Foundation. She also hosts two monthly open mics in upstate NY. Jennifer’s hilarious stories of her experiences with being an HR professional by day, comedian by night and mom 24/7 make her act an enjoyable mix of relatable topics and shockingly funny moments!
Executive Producer Peggy Boyce is a former stand-up comedienne who has appeared in major comedy clubs and festivals. Peggy has been a supporter of women in comedy since 1992 through the “Mary Jo Comedy Awards,” and the “Funniest Female Comedy Series”.
