As part of our Just For Fun Series, The Goodwill Theatre will present A Little Princess Christmas for two shows on Saturday, November 24 at 3 p.m. and at 7 p.m. at the Schorr Family Firehouse Stage. The Goodwill Theatre’s 2012-2013 Just For Fun Series is sponsored by Visions Federal Credit Union.

With a lush musical score of five original songs and authentic period costumes, A Little Princess Christmas is a delight both to watch and to hear. “Audiences may remember the heart-warming Shirley Temple movie. It was one of my favorites and I am looking forward to bringing my granddaughter,” says Goodwill Theatre Inc. CEO Naima Kradjian. “This is a wonderful addition to the Thanksgiving holiday, especially after a day of shopping on Black Friday. We think families will enjoy gathering to enjoy this show together.” adds Kradjian.

With the holiday season in full view, ArtsPower’s A Little Princess Christmas, is a musical based on the classic novel by Frances Hodgson Burnett. Spirited Sara Crewe goes from riches to rags when her doting father disappears, leaving her in the clutches of the evil Miss Minchin. Stripped of all her fine possessions and banished to live in the attic with the maid of the house Becky, Sara refuses to sink into bitterness or depression. She remains confident that her father is still alive and that they will be reunited. Unwavering in her kindness, Sara transforms Becky’s attic into a palace through her storytelling and convinces her friend that anyone who is loved is royalty. Now it’s up to Sara and her friend Becky to save themselves while keeping up hope that Captain Crewe will return to save their Christmas. The powers of love, friendship and belief in miracles are all on vivid display in ArtsPower’s hit musical.

“In 1998, we chose to adapt Frances Hodgson Burnett’s A Little Princess as a musical. Shirley Temple had starred as Sara Crewe in the 1930s film of the same title,” says Executive Producer Mark Blackman, “fortunately for us, the process of adapting this book into a Christmas story felt very natural; today, we feel that it makes Ms. Burnett’s A Little Princess all the more meaningful.” Twin brothers Mark and Gary Blackman founded ArtsPower in 1985 in Manhattan and have been steering its course ever since as it has emerged as one of America’s premiere producers of professional theatre for young and family audiences. Its 27 professional touring productions have been seen by nearly 12 million people in 48 states – from Alaska to Florida – in some of the nation’s top cultural centers, including The Kennedy Center in Washington, DC and Lincoln Center in New York.
