Johnson City – The Goodwill Theatre will present “Stanky and the Coalminer’s Polka featuring John Stanky, on Sunday, March 18 at 2:00PM at the Schorr Family Firehouse Stage. This Sunday afternoon performance is the second in the Goodwill Theatre’s 2011-2012 Music Hall Concert Series, sponsored by Keystone Associates.
Stanky, and the Coalminers have been bringing people to their dancing feet for years. John Stanky, called the “Gentleman of Polkas” began his musical career in 1945. He formed his first band in 1950, changing their name to the “Coalminers” in 1962, as some of the players worked the mines. To date, the group has recorded many albums, and has performed on cruise ships as well as numerous tours to Holland, Germany, Italy, Switzerland, Austria, South America, China and many other fabulous places.
Through the years Stanky has composed more than 40 songs. His most popular is the “Apples, Peaches, Pumpkin Pie Polka”. Most notably Stanky’s “Hats Off To Pennsylvania” song is being considered for state song. The polka band has been featured on PBS television for many years.
Tickets for “Stanky and the Coalminers Polka” are on sale now for $20 for adults and $15 for senior citizens and students. The Schorr Family Firehouse Stage, located at 46-48 Willow Street in Johnson City, accepts cash, checks and all major credit cards. Doors will open approximately 45 minutes before show time. General Seating is based on a first-come; first-served policy. Refreshments will be available for sale.
